What has gotten into me?
In Spite of Myself - another awful poem by D. Geek.
Looking down, from below,
I learn the things you cannot know.
I see the world that you lay waste;
I touch the things you cannot taste.
I hear the things you cannot speak,
I taste the things that make you weak.
Looking up, from above,
I can see the things you love.
A child’s laugh, a lover’s smile,
You value these, for a while.
Then off you go, in your pursuits,
Wasting all your labor’s fruits.
Does the laughter ring? Do the smiles remain?
Is there joy or is there pain?
It’s all there, to give or take.
What are you leaving in your wake?
The subtext of your life, you see,
Is very, very plain to me.
Looking up, from above,
I see the things you do not love.
You spend your time; you earn your keep,
But the costs incurred are very steep.
From up above, from down below,
I see the world that loves you so.
